Heritage Timber Restoration
Heritage Carpentry and Joinery in Sydney
When a heritage timber element is missing or beyond repair, it has to be remade properly, matched to the period in profile, species, and craftsmanship. Noble Heritage provides heritage carpentry and joinery across Sydney: decorative fretwork, corbels and brackets, mouldings, balustrades, and custom replication of windows, doors, and architectural detail. We make new timberwork that looks like it has always been there.

Signs you may need this work
Common problems we resolve
- Missing or damaged fretwork, corbels, or decorative detail
- Elements too far gone to repair and needing replication
- Non-original or mismatched joinery from past renovations
- Mouldings, balustrades, or trims that no longer exist off the shelf
- A need for new joinery that must match an existing heritage scheme
Replication matched to the period
Faithful replication starts with the evidence: an existing example, a surviving profile, or historical detail. We take off the exact mouldings and profiles, select the correct timber species, and craft replacements using traditional joinery so the new element matches the originals in proportion, detail, and feel.
This is how we recreate decorative fretwork, corbels, brackets, finials, and the slim glazing bars and panel mouldings that mass-produced joinery never quite captures. Whether it is a single missing bracket or a full run of verandah detail, the work is made to belong.
Workshop craftsmanship, on-site fit
Most bespoke joinery is made in our workshop under controlled conditions, then fitted and finished on site so it integrates cleanly with the surrounding original work. We can replicate windows and doors complete, or produce individual components to repair an existing element.
Every piece is built from quality, species-appropriate timber and finished to suit the building, so replicated work ages alongside the originals rather than standing out.

How we work
Our restoration process
On-site assessment
We inspect every element, document its condition, and identify what can be saved versus what needs replication, then provide a clear written scope and quote.
Conservation plan
We agree an approach that satisfies heritage guidelines and, where required, liaise with your council, architect, or heritage consultant before work begins.
Workshop and on-site repair
Skilled tradespeople carry out the work using traditional techniques and premium, species-matched timber, in our workshop or on site to suit the job.
Finishing and handover
We apply heritage-appropriate finishes, reinstall hardware, and walk you through the completed work so it performs and looks the part for decades.
Questions answered
Heritage carpentry and joinery: common questions
Can you replicate a profile that no longer exists?
Yes. We take off the original profile from a surviving example or historical detail and craft matched replacements in the correct timber species, so new joinery matches the period exactly.
Do you make decorative timber like fretwork and corbels?
Yes. Decorative fretwork, corbels, brackets, finials, and ornamental detailing are a core part of our heritage joinery work, made to match the original character of the building.
Is replicated joinery as durable as the original?
Built from quality, species-appropriate timber and traditional joinery, replicated work is made to last and finished to age alongside the originals.
